Use the Indian place value system.

Rule: From the right, keep 3 digits for Ones–Hundreds, then put commas after every 2 digits for Thousands and Lakhs.

A) Tripura = 3,199,203

1. Write the number: (3199203)
2. Split from the right:
• Ones–Hundreds: (203)
• Thousands: (99)
• Lakhs: (31)
3. Add commas: (31,99,203)
4. Read in words:
• (31\) lakh = “thirty one lakh”
• (99\) thousand = “ninety nine thousand”
• (203\) = “two hundred three”
5. Tripura: Thirty one lakh ninety nine thousand two hundred three

B) Meghalaya = 2,318,822

1. Write the number: (2318822)
2. Split from the right:
• Ones–Hundreds: (822)
• Thousands: (18)
• Lakhs: (23)
3. Add commas: (23,18,822)
4. Read in words:
• (23\) lakh = “twenty three lakh”
• (18\) thousand = “eighteen thousand”
• (822\) = “eight hundred twenty two”
5. Meghalaya: Twenty three lakh eighteen thousand eight hundred twenty two
