Question 24

Question. 24

There is a rectangular lawn 10 m long and 4 m wide in front of Meena’s house (Fig. 6.12). It is fenced along the two smaller sides and one longer side leaving a gap of 1 m for the entrance. Find the length of fencing.

Answer:

Length of fencing required = 17 m

Detailed Answer with Explanation:

Step 1: Note the size of the lawn.

Length = (10, ext{m})

Width = (4, ext{m})

Step 2: Understand which sides are fenced.

It is fenced along:

  • the two smaller sides (both widths), and
  • one longer side (one length).

Step 3: Add the lengths of the fenced sides.

First width = (4, ext{m})

Second width = (4, ext{m})

One length = (10, ext{m})

Total before entrance gap = (4 + 4 + 10)

= (18, ext{m})

Step 4: Subtract the entrance gap.

Entrance gap = (1, ext{m})

Fencing needed = (18 - 1)

= (17, ext{m})

Therefore, length of fencing required = (17, ext{m}).
