Step 2: Count the shaded parts.

Shaded parts = \(3\)

\(\dfrac{\text{shaded parts}}{\text{total parts}}\)

Step 4: Put the numbers in:

\(\dfrac{3}{8}\)

Read it as: “three-eighths”.

Numerator (top) = \(3\) → shaded parts
Denominator (bottom) = \(8\) → total equal parts

So, the fraction for the shaded portion is \(\dfrac{3}{8}\).
